Welcome to Brown Mortuary Service

Brown Mortuary Service had its beginning as the Fissell Funeral Home in 1910 on the main floor of the I.O.O.F. Building on Prindle Ave. in Chehalis. On Sunday, January 6, 1924 the funeral home relocated to a new building about a block away from its original location on the corner of Market and Prindle streets. Mr. Fissell also owned and operated a funeral home in Morton, on the Corner of Main and 3rd Street. Willard and Anne Brown, and their partner Arny Maddison purchased the funeral homes on March 1, 1952. Maddison sold out to the Browns in December of 1956.

The name was changed to Brown Mortuary; with chapels know as Fissell Chapel in Chehalis, and the Morton Chapel in Morton. In 1957 the Browns bought the Boone Mortuary located across the street from Fissell’s original location on Prindle. In 1969, the Browns purchased land next to the Morton Cemetery where they located a new modern full service funeral home. The Browns continued to operate both locations in Chehalis until 1978 when the Boone Mortuary was closed as a funeral home. Today the original Mortuary is the annex and offices for the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
